These are deeply moving paintings, simple and laconic
in their compositions and assertions. They are not theatrical and self-conscious
– perhaps created when the artist was least aware of an audience.
Because of it these paintings are reflective of the type of complexities
that can only come from sublime realizations. Again and again I found
the austerity of these works audacious and existential. I was moved by
their hyperborean sense of unity in arrangements that are both controlled
and uncertain; emotional and reticent. I was touched by how form and color
are boxed and released, open and closed. In each work the subtlety of
the free lines and the quasi-geometric forms, coupled with the monochromatic
palette, imply infinite morphological possibilities and wide ranges of
sensations.
